National Dental Health Month!!

Dr. Sword speaking to students

The month of February is National Dental Health Month, and it’s always great to share that with our local students to make sure our pediatric population is educated about dental hygiene. Lately I have been making the rounds to many local schools to make sure that each student I come in contact with knows what to do to take care of their teeth for a lifetime and to make sure all of them have a new toothbrush to take home and put to good use! I even got to mention how seeing an orthodontist and getting braces or Invisalign can help give them a functional bite that is stable, healthy, and long-lasting! Most of the kids are familiar with braces and Invisalign aligners to some extent because a lot of their friends have them, but I still get to educate them about how us orthodontic specialists can use these braces and Invisalign to drastically improve their quality of life for years to come. In the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to spend time with First Baptist Church preschool here in Pikeville, Pikeville Elementary School, Millard Elementary School, and the Pike County Public Library preschool. In the next few weeks I plan on making additional stops at Johns Creek Elementary School, Mullins Elementary School, Kimper Elementary School, and Christ Central Elementary School. My intention is to reach out to every elementary school here in Pike County in hopes that I can continue the mission of boosting the student experience at our local schools and assisting in programs for all of the Family Resource Coordinators out there.

The best part about getting out in to the schools for me is getting to meet the people who are responsible for educating the next generation of eastern Kentuckians. Many of my school teachers growing up had a lasting impact on me and helped me get to the place where I am today. The people in Pikeville, Pike County, eastern Kentucky, and all of the Appalachian Mountain region are always so hospitable, down-to-earth, and friendly. I can’t thank you all enough for welcoming me in to your schools and for welcoming my wife and two little girls to the area. My wife is originally from north central Kentucky, and she has been blown away by how nice the people here have been to us and to our kids. Of course I grew up here, so I am not surprised by any of this. It’s months like this that make me grateful that I get to share the job that I love with the people and the area that I love.

If you are interested in having me visit your school and educate your kids about oral hygiene just let me know! You can email me at drjacob@hartsockorthodontics.com or message our office on Facebook. I look forward to hearing from you!
